Part 1

Al-Biruni, a great Muslim scientist and intellectual whose achievements are among the building blocks of modern science today

Abu Rayhan Muhammad bin Ahmad Al-Biruni known as Al-Biruni (Birth: 5 September 973, Died: 13 December 1048) was a great researcher and scientist.  He was born in Bayron, a village on the outskirts of Khwarazm, and was hence called Al-Biruni.  Al-Biruni was a contemporary of Bu Ali Sina.  When the rule of al-Iraq, the guardians of al-Biruni, ended in Khwarazm, he traveled to Jurjan, where he completed his great book "Atar al-Baqiya an al-Qarun al-Khaliya".  When the conditions were favorable, Al-Biruni returned to his homeland and there met the great Bu Ali Sina in the court.

 living conditions

The city of Kas was located on the east bank of the Jehon River (Amo River).  There were several suburban settlements around it, one of which was named Baron.  There was an orphan child growing up in this suburban settlement named Muhammad bin Ahmad who became known to the world as Al-Biruni.  This child was fond of natural scenes from the beginning.  He used to walk in the gardens all day long, climb the mountains, run in the desert and return home in the evening with a bouquet of basil leaves and twigs in his hand which he would arrange in a bowl and when the wind blew.  The fragrance of this bouquet would have perfumed his poor house.  His mother used to call him Abu Rayhan for that reason.  Albiruni's father used to run a small business, but due to his sudden death, Albiruni's mother was forced to earn a living by collecting firewood from the forest for herself and her son.  Albiruni used to help his mother in this work.

One day Al-Biruni met a Greek botanist.  Al-Biruni saw him plucking flowers in a garden and cutting plants under the trees of the forest, so he approached the Greek scholar and protested, saying: Sir, why are you breaking these baubles and cutting the plants?  Can't you draw them like I did without cutting them out and killing them?  Hearing this, the Greek scholar laughed and said: Son, I am collecting these plants and plants for the sake of knowledge.
